Of course this venture started with Pinterest. I kept seeing all these awesome homemade granola bars and I wanted in on that!!! I'm still somewhat new to the homemade ventures so I don't keep some of the more.. what I call "odd" ingredients on hand.. nor did I feel the want or need to have them on hand regularly enough to purchase them. It took quite a while before I finally found something BASIC. No flax seed.. or any other random ingredient I'd never heard of before. But of course I was finally able to find something to suit our needs... only a few ingredients and very little time needed.
So without further ado. Here are the ingredients! (This can also be cut in half I hardly use the full recipe.. and when I do I make multiple variations.. this recipe can also be put in mini muffin tins or any other type of mold to make fun little munch sized granola snacks!)
Full Sized Recipe (Use baking sheet or 13 x 9.. 9x9 will make thick bars)
4 cups of oats (quick cooking)
3/4 cup melted butter (I tend to use margarine... I know... I just don't buy butter often)
I cup brown sugar
1/2 cup honey (corn syrup will work)
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Vanilla
And whatever add in you want.. I use chocolate chips.
Mix it all together and press it into the baking contraption of your choice.
(Be sure to spray the pan or whatever you're using... don't want them sticking.. that's annoying!!)
Bake at 400 for for 9-11 minutes (watch these babies they will burn!!)
This is the most versatile recipe EVER. I have used peanut butter (both creamy and crunchy) FANTASTIC!! (One of my favorite variations actually)
I've also made a smore's variation which are pretty delicious as well.
I've also made them with trail mixes.. we like the what WalMart calls "indulgent" mix..
It contains.. almonds, peanuts, cashews, chocolate chips, white chocolate chips and peanut butter chips.. also some craisin type thingys.. OH MY GOSH. They are amazing.
And while we're on the subject of craisins they work in this recipe too for a "healthy" version.
Basically whatever you want!!! Have fun!! They are the best snack... EVER.
If you want them reallllly crispy then make them as flat as possible and watch them closely chances are they'll cook much faster. But then they kind of end up like a granola crisp.
I hope you enjoy this recipe as we do. I find myself making it over and over and over again. It only takes a few minutes to throw together and 10 mintes give or take to bake..
Totally worth it. I usually cut them into bars (if I didn't use a mini muffin pan or mold) and seal them up in a ziploc.
Below is a printable version of the recipe!
