Hi! Welcome to this Mother's Day Edition of my cookie art! I'm still a little out of practice after a year off BUT this was something cute and simple that I did for Mother's Day and I really think even if you're a beginner you could do this, and maybe even execute it better. This is a first for me but I actually changed my design idea completely on this one and I have the receipts to share! When I started this design idea I wanted to do a puzzle cookie. I was just going to cut a heart 3 ways and have a rose that fit into the heart as well. I changed my mind. I have had these puzzle cutters for a while and I've pulled them out a few times but never did use them. So now was the time. I think it came out pretty cute and now I have some experience working with them. Secondly I did change the style of the roses and I don't think it really worked, but it is what it is. Icing is tricky to work with and you really have to have your consistency match your design and mine didn't this time, but that's okay. The sentiment got through and they're for the Moms in my life and they appreciated it anyway... it's like that handmade card you create in grade school... it isn't perfect but it still pulls on the heart strings. I did put my effort and love into it so the icing faux paux isn't that detrimental. PLUS I really want them to eat these because they are Mocha Espresso Chip and I *think* they may have discontinued my Espresso Chips so I may not be making these (at least these exact cookies) again and a lot of times when I do my decorated cookies they don't get eaten because they are "too pretty" LOL that's not a concern this time LOL. Anyway without further blabbery let's get into all the details! SketchThe IcingI made all "medium" consistency icing (except the green) since I didn't plan (at first haha) to do any super detail work. The CuttersThe ProcessHaving a white edible marker is really priceless. I actually have a set of 3 and they are marvelous! I also got those on Amazon. You can find them HERE. The rose I used as my template came from a Sweet Sugarbelle mini set and the heart is a Wilton heart. As for the design... here's a bit of a funny but also an ode to the versatility of these cookie cutters (the puzzle ones). As I was putting these together (there are 3 sets) one of them didn't get flipped and it's upside down. I DID NOT notice until I had already completely decorated the cookies LOL. *Reminder I also have a VERY BUSY 8 month old baby boy running around and he isn't a great sleeper so my brain is not firing on all cylinders by any means. However, it didn't effect the design and I actually thought it was kinda cool that it was different and it still worked and I didn't even notice. *I wonder if you would have noticed if I didn't point it out.... ??? Another behind the scenes kurfuffle... not to point out all the flaws but --- things go wrong and you have to adapt and keep going and that's what I try to show with these behind the scenes posts as well as what techniques I use etc. Anyway. I hadn't used my fine tip markers in a while and you can tell in one of these sets the ink was wayyyyyy more free flowing than in the others. It had pooled up a little bit and I had to just run with it. I did get it going at a normal pace for the other 2 but again... it didn't ruin the design.... it just came out a little different than the other two. I didn't put a whole bunch of focus into the "Mother's Day Cards" but I did snap a quick pic of them being treated with some parchment. That gave me a super flat surface so I could write on them. I was pretty happy with those I even created little stamps for each of them. I thought they were the perfect little extra touch.. as if I sent Mom flowers, a little love and a card. That's kind of the idea here. The roses are all different because I have 3 wonderful Moms in my life. I have my Mom, my Step Mom and my MIL. They each got different colored roses. PhotoshootAll Bagged Up I hope you enjoyed this little set and maybe found some inspiration for yourself!
Thank you for stopping by! Hope to see you next time! Much Love Amanda
