Holy matrimony I haven't posted here since 2018! To be fair I did start cookies in the fall of 2019 which has become an absolute obsession for me and it takes A TON of time which is why I've had to step back a bit with the addition of our awesome little dude who is now a TODDLER already!! As I am preparing to start the next season of cookie creating and decorating I'm also longing again for the yarn and sewing crafts. I wonder if that is associated with having a little one again? I don't know.. but it checks out for me. I am NOT by any means abandoning cookies I'm just making more room for them and the other things I enjoyed doing before cookies. Cookies have kind of dominated my craft/creator space for about 6 years now and that's totally fine because I was burned out on all my other crafts. I art journalled. I crocheted. I knitted. I played with the sewing machine a bit but mostly just started hoarding clothes for scrap fabric. LOL. I got burned out. And bored. However, here lately I have had the itch to get my yarn back out and make some things for the fall. Beanies or scarves or whatever. Two days ago, I went to the sewing machine and attacked a stack of things that had been sitting there for.... possibly a few years... some longer than others.. but I spent the day mending and fixing (or tossing.) Everything made it except one thing... not a huge deal. I did mend a pair of gloves for my hubby. I sewed up a seam that was coming undone on one of my tshirts. I fixed the sleeves on a casual red tshirt dress I got from the thrift store a while back. Aside from the mending I had a DIY project to attempt. Jaxon, bless him, threw one of his favorite tshirts into the bag with his spiked running shoes and they shredded the tshirt. He got lucky though and the entire logo on the front was untouched so I told him I would try to figure out some way to save it for him. FFWD like idk 6 months... I've been seeing a lot of sewing/upcycle videos come through my feeds and I got an idea. I decided I would put it on one of his hoodies, I had him decide which one. Because this was going to be my first time doing this kind of thing I wanted to test it out first so I picked a shirt and a hoodie from my own collection and proceeded to do a test run and I learned A LOT.... I decided to go with a less permanent solution until I can lock in on some basic sewing techniques. My style is kinda messy, kinda impatient so my hoodie refresh came out okay for me but seriously flawed. I may even go back and try to fix the bottom seam because man it is rough!! But for now I learned what I needed to in order to complete Jaxon's tshirt rescue. I just used some embroidery thread and hand sewed it to the outside. Fun fact, Jaxon picked his school Track and Field hoodie for me to do this on and while I don't care, I paid for the thing, schools can be weird about stuff like this and I don't want him to be banned from wearing his school hoodie so I didn't chop anything I just sewed it right on top. He loves it. I did clean it up a bit after I got it sewed on. I was going to add more to the border or even get rid of the excess around the border altogether but Jaxon really liked it how it was so I left it. It looks kinda Rock and Roll and we can easily remove it and put it on to something else if we want.
So now all my mending and DIY projects that have been sitting are finally finished and that gives me a lot more space to breathe and create other things. I hope you will join me for the next adventure, whatever that may be! Much Love, Amanda
