Holy matrimony I haven't posted here since 2018! To be fair I did start cookies in the fall of 2019 which has become an absolute obsession for me and it takes A TON of time which is why I've had to step back a bit with the addition of our awesome little dude who is now a TODDLER already!! As I am preparing to start the next season of cookie creating and decorating I'm also longing again for the yarn and sewing crafts. I wonder if that is associated with having a little one again? I don't know.. but it checks out for me. I am NOT by any means abandoning cookies I'm just making more room for them and the other things I enjoyed doing before cookies. Cookies have kind of dominated my craft/creator space for about 6 years now and that's totally fine because I was burned out on all my other crafts. I art journalled. I crocheted. I knitted. I played with the sewing machine a bit but mostly just started hoarding clothes for scrap fabric. LOL. I got burned out. And bored. However, here lately I have had the itch to get my yarn back out and make some things for the fall. Beanies or scarves or whatever. Two days ago, I went to the sewing machine and attacked a stack of things that had been sitting there for.... possibly a few years... some longer than others.. but I spent the day mending and fixing (or tossing.) Everything made it except one thing... not a huge deal. I did mend a pair of gloves for my hubby. I sewed up a seam that was coming undone on one of my tshirts. I fixed the sleeves on a casual red tshirt dress I got from the thrift store a while back. Aside from the mending I had a DIY project to attempt. Jaxon, bless him, threw one of his favorite tshirts into the bag with his spiked running shoes and they shredded the tshirt. He got lucky though and the entire logo on the front was untouched so I told him I would try to figure out some way to save it for him. FFWD like idk 6 months... I've been seeing a lot of sewing/upcycle videos come through my feeds and I got an idea. I decided I would put it on one of his hoodies, I had him decide which one. Because this was going to be my first time doing this kind of thing I wanted to test it out first so I picked a shirt and a hoodie from my own collection and proceeded to do a test run and I learned A LOT.... I decided to go with a less permanent solution until I can lock in on some basic sewing techniques. My style is kinda messy, kinda impatient so my hoodie refresh came out okay for me but seriously flawed. I may even go back and try to fix the bottom seam because man it is rough!! But for now I learned what I needed to in order to complete Jaxon's tshirt rescue. I just used some embroidery thread and hand sewed it to the outside. Fun fact, Jaxon picked his school Track and Field hoodie for me to do this on and while I don't care, I paid for the thing, schools can be weird about stuff like this and I don't want him to be banned from wearing his school hoodie so I didn't chop anything I just sewed it right on top. He loves it. I did clean it up a bit after I got it sewed on. I was going to add more to the border or even get rid of the excess around the border altogether but Jaxon really liked it how it was so I left it. It looks kinda Rock and Roll and we can easily remove it and put it on to something else if we want.
So now all my mending and DIY projects that have been sitting are finally finished and that gives me a lot more space to breathe and create other things. I hope you will join me for the next adventure, whatever that may be! Much Love, Amanda

September brings blue!
September's birth stone is the blue sapphire and it also happens to be my birthday month so I will be using LOTS of blue this month! I made another Love & Peace earwarmer this time in blue and white and I made the peace and love a bit smaller. I am really in love with these! Thanks for stopping by! Amanda I don't know why but recently I've really taken to the gold, black and white theme.
I actually just recently did my kitchen in these colors. I used to never be a fan of yellow or gold but I'm really digging it lately. I created this headband over the weekend and I LOVE IT! I plan to make many many more and I'm going to definitely be sporting them all fall/winter. If you'd like to see how I made this let me know in the COMMENTS and I will create a pattern or video. Much love! Amanda Tis the season for crochet!!! And knit too but I haven't done a lot of knitting in a while. The skull is the newest thing I've tried. I found it on Pinterest it's an amazing pattern! I will post the link under the image in case you want to try for yourself! CLICK HERE FOR THE SKULL PATTERN! Don't worry it will open a new window... or sorry it's going to open a new window lol I created this set as a gift. It's all crochet except for the "Dad" beanie, the body of the beanie was done on a loom because I find it makes a nice "slouchy beanie" I tend to be a tight crocheter so the loom to the rescue! Hope y'all enjoyed my little creations!
I hope you are inspired! Have an awesome day! Much Love! Amanda It's almost fall time!!
So I've been working on some items. Some new stuff actually. I made a few pairs of ear warmers they are pretty cute... came out nicely. I also made a headband and a beanie.. it's child sized.
I used an H hook. Magic circle and started with 8 sc. Then continued as a beanie with a few increases and decreases as needed to form the correct shape. Pretty basic. I know.. more pictures.. but seriously!! It's adorable!! Anyway- I was going to write up a pattern for it but at this time I haven't yet. Thought I would engage and see if anyone is interested in a pattern before I spend the time on it. So if you're interested please leave a comment or shoot me an email and I will provide one! It's actually not much harder than making a beanie and it is crochet so it works up quickly. Thanks for stopping by! 💜 VintageModMom Woo fall! And impending birthday =) Well you wouldn't know it's fall around here yet.. it's still reaching triple digits {heat index} But it's Septemeber {my favorite month for some reason.. haha} So I know it's coming.. in a few more months.. lol I have been busy busy working on my fall/winter projects! Right now I have 2 scarves, my hooded scarf, a loom beanie and a baby cowgirl hat in the works. Everything is coming along nicely! I'm also working on some granny squares for a larger project.. almost forgot about that..haha. Guess I actually did forget to photograph those.. but that's okay.. they're just granny squares. {And the loom beanie...dang} Oooh well. Wait until you guys see them all once they're done! I'm going to attempt to finish up the pink hat today.. all the yarn is still attatched and I'm going to add an accessory to it. Either a bow or a flower.. the bow is winning. Since I learned how to crochet {maybe 2 years ago?} I've been doing LOTS of crochet I'm trying to get back into knitting again as well. The green scarf is knitted =) Maybe I will also be able to post patterns along with my creations. I'm not a pattern kind of person I just decide what I want and figure out how to create it. I can read and understand patterns I just find them tedious.. So maybe I can write some simple patterns =) I'm hoping to get all these done within the next 2 weeks so I can start the next round of projects. Seems a lot of people are getting scarves this year lol. But scarves are great.. and winter has been harsh lately 😉 The hood is actually a redo. I made a hood last year and I loved it but really wanted a scarf attatched to it so I scrapped it and did it over. It's just waiting to have the scarf attatched now. I have to check and make sure the hood is long enough around my face first. I love fall. So many accessory options. So this is what I've been up to lately. Hope you'll stay tuned for the finished projects and for future projects! {Maybe patterns too} Thanks bunches for stopping by! 💜 VintageModMom Well. Time is doing it's thing as usual and it's almost back to school time already. Which means fall isn't far behind! Time to start my yarnwork again. I knit and crochet so I just sum it up into yarnwork. I just finished a project a few days ago and I LOVE IT. My cousin is having a baby girl in September and I thought I would make her something for the winter! This is my first attempt at this kind of project so I was thrilled with how it came out!! Yeah. The photo isn't great quality as it was taken with my cell phone but I don't think much is lost in translation. I did create this pattern myself. Last year I made a hood for myself {Which I love and I'm currently adding a scarf to it} so I kind of just went with that and measured along the way. It's just basic SC all the way, except that I used a foundationless start to get the pretty ruffle effect around the front rim of the hood and the bottom of the scarf. This piece was very simple and I finished it in just a few hours. I hope she will love it just as much as I do!! And while we're on the topic of yarnwork.. I think it's almost time for me to setup a goal sheet to get things done for Christmas time!! I love making things for my family. Although everything hasn't turned out perfectly.. it's given me the opportunity to practice and hone my skills. So far I've made beanies, scarfs, hoods, arm warmers, headbands and a few other things. I haven't made any "large" pieces yet. I do have a few requests for afghans. Just haven't jumped on that yet. I've also made a few handbags too. Those are pretty easy. I use my loom a lot too for some of these things. The loom is nice because you don't have to worry about counting stitches or rows you can just watch tv and loom away. Last year I did purchase a scarf loom that I haven't used yet. I should make it goal to try that baby out this year. I will definitely have to do some research though.. I will have to learn a new cast on method. Currently I just use the ewrap method.
Anyway. Are there any fellow yarnworkers out there? What are you making for the fall/winter? I hope you enjoyed my sweet but short post today! Have a super week! VintageModMom So here are just a few things I've made since I began knitting/crocheting a few years ago.
I definitely plan to add more and more to this collection =) |
