It's time for some real talk! Woot! Honestly I have been feeling out this blog thing for about 2 years now and I think I'm finally starting to see where the path is going.. This whole journey started with my couponing.. I would find deals and coupons and want to share it with the whole world so I started a coupon blog.. But with the coupons came new meals.. and I started doing crafts.. I really just started embracing the WHOLE stay at home mom scene and I felt I needed to broaden myself a bit.. being limited to just coupons wasn't my style. Plus. I'm not an extreme couponer.. I coupon here and there but my journys have led me to more scratch cooking and less need for coupons. I have really been coming into my own through these past 5 years.. {Since being married} My husband has been a Godsend. Before I met him I was the most negative person on this Earth. I'm pretty sure of it. He has {with blood, sweat, tears and A LOT of facepalm moments} really shown me what life can be like when you shift your perspective. I have been studying.. in depth.. the powers of positive thinking.. Affirmations, Mantras, God, Law of Attraction.. etc. The list goes on, but I have seen results.. results that my negative attitude never got me. {I also need to pause here and say that my positive partner.. my bff.. is so right.. I'm a multi-tasking nightmare.. I must address this issue.} Oh Buddah. How right you are. I can tell you the very first time that I actually took some action against my own thoughts it was pretty eye opening. Our minds run constantly.. all day long.. how many horrible things are you saying about yourself?? When I would get upset and say something like... "gah.. I'm so lazy".. or "Ugh I'm just never going to be able to do anything right.." Hubby would stop me and say "Hey.. don't you talk to my wife like that." Haha. How right he was. So the first action I took was this WRITING ACTIVITY. Kinda like "turning that frown upside down" but with negative self talk.. Writing down all the negative talk and turning it into positive talk. For as simple as this is.. the shift in perspective is monumental. But. Don't misunderstand. Things aren't just going to magically change overnight.. You will feel that light bulb switch on.. but this is daily maintenance now.. at first it will be hard. Just like anything else.. practice.. and they lied.. practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect can't be made.. Don't strive for perfect.. strive for progress.. If you're progressing that means change is happening.. Change is good. Okay well. Here's some real talk -I'm totally lost. Starting writing this morning.. been writing.. but now it's after noon and my trail of thoughts has wandered so far into the woods and I don't know if I left enough bread crumbs to find my way back haha. So. MOVING ALONG. I really need to focus. Can I focus on being focused?? ... I'm starting to think that maybe I just don't know how lol. I can't sit still that long. THINGS!! Things people things!! That need doing.. and such. Yup. Always with the expectations. I too am a work in progress... which is why we are having this real talk.. lol. Okay so what am I focusing on right now.. Well besides the general cooking, crafting, momming, wifery.. the basics. Let's move on to the next tier. FOCUS! What I'm focusing on now is 1. BEING ME. The absolute most awesome best me =) 2. Writing more because I should. I feel I should. I enjoy it. 3. I'm studying up on how to be a Proverbs 31 Wife. 4. Organizing and simplifying life. {This is ongoing} 5. Letting go of all my fear. 6. Mantras and Affirmations That fear one is tough, but I'm realizing that's what's holding me back from doing all the things I love. Fear of other's reactions and thoughts and judgements.. However.. other's reactions and thoughts and judgements are their problem. Not mine. I can't achieve my happiness if I'm constantly living for others. IT'S REDONK. So here's to a new leaf.. or life..!! And if the Lord wills it some focus..!! I hope that you will follow along and watch me bloom! YES THIS ^^

That was my first time making the homemade gummi snacks.. Boy did I learn some things haha BUT I've made them twice since.. They are VERY good ... but not the healthiest I can tell you that.. there are now recipes that include fruit purees etc that you can use that are more healthy.. this recipe contains A LOT of sugar.. like.. 3 cups... But if you don't mind that.. they are soooo good.. lol. I have a serious addiction to sugar.. so I don't mind it one bit.. The recipe makes A TON though so now I cut it in half... even after cutting it in half I still have candy for like a month... totally not complaining though.. honestly. If you do want the recipe you can find it HERE. The other snacks.. I made roll out chocolate chip cookies and added some food coloring they did come out pink =) And I also put some strawberry yogurt in my heart mold and made some frozen yogurt snacks. Those were pretty fantastic!! There's lots of options for heart/valentines themed foods... These are just the ones we made last year.. I have made some new things this year!!! Can't wait to share them with you all!!! I just think it's nice to look back and see what I've accomplished.. Where I've come from and what we're doing now.. It's definitely awesome =) I hope you guys enjoyed the recap.. And I hope everyone enjoys the Valentine's week!!!! I know I will!! I'm going to be crafting and baking up all kinds of stuff!! Be sure to follow me around on FB & INSTAGRAM. Much love VintageModMom If you missed the links here there are again: Homemade Valentines GumDrops Nerdy Valentines So last year we had the heart shaped eggs.. I have a whole set of the heart shaped pans!! I love hearts so much!! lol. And then I did the bacon hearts.. not perfect but you get the gist anyway.. And of course cereal with heart shaped bananas! Hubby got a little giggle and he knew that I took the extra effort to show him some love =) We also did lots of Valentine's Crafts last year.. Or a few.. Here are the crafts from last year! Believe it or not I still have the "nerdy Valentines" I've actually recycled them.. Wait until you see what I did with them this year!!! Anyway.. if you would like to print your own.. you can find them HERE. That site also has TONS of amazing links for things for Valentines... It's pretty phenomenal. As for the painting.. we actually use a toilet paper roll and rubber bands and made some heart stamps.. Easy, fun, frugal!! And last but not least the treats!!! Hey everyone!!
So Valentines is just 7 days away yay! I love Valentines.. Hearts have always been my favorite shape... and I love chocolate.. and the post Valentine's sale chocolate haha.. And jewelry and all the pink and red and sparkly awesome yes!!! Last year we had a pretty great valentines!! We did all sorts of crafts! It's probably the holiday we did the most for.. haha.. That's horrible I know.. but I JUST LOVE IT!!! So here's the recap from last year.. Let's start with breakfast!! Good Morning!!
Well it's back to the grind for us... We have returned from our final vacation until the end of next month... It sure was great being able to see so much family during the holidays!! A blessing indeed. Speaking of blessings. On our way home Saturday a couple paid for our meal at Wendy's because we let them in line at the drive thru. Hubbs and I have never had anything like that happen and it was truly magical. Once we got home I jotted it down and put it in our "Focus on the Good" Jar.. Our first one of the year! Pretty exciting.. only 3 days into the year and already something great to add.. it was truly inspiring.. We definitely plan to pay it forward in the future.. that was a really nice gesture.. The ladies in the drive thru loved it as well.. all we could say was "awwwwww!!" I sure do love those good vibes!!! So since we're back to the grind there is soooo much to do... I have already made our menu for the week so I'm ahead on a few things.. Got our bedroom cleaned too.. it's nice to have at least one clean room.. the rest of the house looks like a toy store exploded... I still need to take down our Christmas decorations.. Kinda sad.. but I'm preparing to start decorating for Valentines.. I love hearts so hence I love Valentines.. I figured decorating the house in hearts and sparkles will more than make up for taking the decorations down =) I've already started making goals for the year.. I like to do mine monthly.. Another reason I don't make resolutions... For this month I want to get my home management binder together.. I plan to offer tons of printables for the year.. Calendars, Menu sheets, to-do lists, weekly cleaning, grocery lists etc. I've tried really hard to switch to paperless but it seems futile with me.. I just haven't found anything to fit my needs... so I'm going back to what has always worked for me.. real life paper. lol. Granted I'm still using Workflowy.. it really is a great website. Great for making lists and stuff but I still need paper to copy things to.. As for today.. We're going to go over some addition for Math Monday. I'm going to bake some bread. Start taking decorations down. I have to work on some posts for my Influenster box!! (Free products I received for review) And who knows what else because I haven't filled out my Motivational Monday sheet yet haha. So. Join me! Here's some free printables to help get your week organized! Thanks for stopping by! Much love. VintageModMom What is up!! Another year gone... gah it happens so fast... at first you're like "GOD this year is never going to end it's only Februrary.." and then all of a sudden you're like "Happy New Year!!" Wait what!? Exactly. Each day both the future and past.. and the now. It's all related. So RIGHT NOW... as I sit in my pjs and enjoy my coffee I'm thinking about how to get ahead of the New Year... Preparedness is all I can hope for. My grandmother says "man plans & God laughs" I often think of this when making schedules/lists etc. Yesterday was hubby's birthday and I had sooo much to do.. I made a "schedule" I had life planned out by the second.. The morning started and things were going smoothly- check. check. check. Alright things were getting done and then BAM. I forgot to move the carseat out of hubbs' ride into my vehicle so I could pick up a few last minute things at the store. PANIC. No store trip for me. However, I was able to improvise and allow my day to continue and it was surprisingly successful. Check out hubbs birthday cake! My first attempt at fondant and it came out amazing!! Yup we are TNG fans. I also made him a card. Which is also pretty awesome if I do say so myself. And I do. Haha. Hubbs was super happy and impressed. =) I think I'm supposed to learn that no matter how hard it is I try, I don't actually have control over much.
I am wound super tight.. I need to work on learning to live life as it comes.. Whether it's the way I've planned it or not.. Now with that said... I've already mapped out like... my entire year haha.. However... I am going to acknowledge that what I have documented and planned is just that.. a game plan.. a preparational pamphlet haha idk.. Not the gospel truth I suppose is what I mean. I don't want to expect things to go wrongly because then things will go wrongly I just expect that life has surprises for me and I need to learn to accept them as they come without feeling as if my life is ruined. My life is surely not ruined. It is improved greatly each year.. sometimes each day.. So more learning and patience and all that fun stuff this year... I have sooooo so much I want to do... All the time. So I'm going to take things slowly. I'm also not making "resolutions".. I will make goals and keeping making notes of things I want to do but it works better for me if I go month to month and not overwhelm myself with a GIANT list of demands from myself haha... yeah I am ambitious. I did learn that about myself this year. Guess I should jot that down somewhere. Being able to define yourself or anything else is always a plus. So anyway. This post is long. I've been gone though!! And I'm about to be gone again for a little bit.. going to visit my dad.. short visit though because he's only a few hours away.. Then it shall be back to the grinding stone!! I hope everyone has a magical and SAFE New Years!!! Much love always!! VintageModMom One of the great things about living in Alabama is that it stays warmer down here a lot longer than it does in other places... I mean.. right now poor Buffalo NY is burried in ..
well I've lost track of just exactly how many feet of snow at this point.. The last time I checked they were up to 7ft of snow.. HOLY SNAP SON. It's only November.. and pre Thanksgiving November!! So I am very thankful that we live somewhere that we can enjoy the fall in it's fullest!! And now that we have a home with a HUGE yard I had to take the opportunity to finally play in the leaves.. I've always wanted to but never have. It is super fun!!! Also makes for some very cute fall photos!! Granted I had to buy rakes... but they were $20 for the set of 2 which I probably could have found cheaper given the time but in a pinch these shall do just fine!! They are Black & Decker so hopefully they will last a while =) Every once in a blue moon you find a super fan! Or.. your husband finds a brother-from-another-mother that wants some props for supporting the wife. lol. Either way. Fans are awesome. So shout out to Shawn Key for becoming a fan and sharing my page like a boss! Hopefully soon I'll have some more awesome stuff for you to share =)
Hope everyone has a super Monday! Much love VintageModMom Hello there blog.
Yup it's been a while and there's no new recipes or projects to share.. YET. However, nothing but bliss exists. This move was the most fantastic decision ever. This place is beyond what words could describe. Who knew Northern Alabama could be so beautiful?? I sure didn't. But now I do. I sit on my back porch everyday and enjoy it. Since we've been here it's been a dream.. the weather has been beautiful every. single. day. Tomorrow some rain is finally suppose to come with that dreaded winter cold front but hey I'm still in love. It may actually be cool to see some snow this year possibly... After living in the deep south for 5 years and being smothered with humidity I'll take some snow.. besides.. what little boy doesn't love playing in the snow... Well I don't know but I'd sure get out there and play in the snow with him. ANYWAY. What's up for the future. Ohhhhh man... I have a brand new house to decorate and twice the square footage to do it all in AND I'm dying to try out some new recipes as well! Yes. Some newness is on the way!!!! And I hope you guys will be around to enjoy it with me.. Although Halloween is pretty much a bust at this point.. well I shouldn't say a bust because we're still going trick or treating etc.. Halloween sure isn't stopping for us.. But I'm cool with that.. Fall is fantastic and there's never a better time for all kinds of festivities!! I am now also equipped with a sewing machine and sewing table.. I took a class in high school.. and I did well I got an A. Granted that was 12 years ago sooooo I'm going to need a refersher but I have no doubt that somehow that part of myself will resurface and I'll be making curtains and clothes and whatever else in no time! That's the plan anyway. So. Are we excited?? Well. I guess I can't vouch for anyone else but I SURE AM! Looking forward to catching some good deals around here too... I am literally 1.8 miles from Bed, Bath & Beyond, Target, Ross and a bundle of other little awesome shops.. Being near a city but not in a city has it's perks. Because the hustle and bustle isn't outside my window but if I'm feeling adventurous the sky is the limit around here. Welp. That is all I have for now.. Thought I would at least grace the social world with my presence here and inform everyone that the fun has just begun!!! Happy Wednesday everyone and thanks for stopping by! Much love as always VintageModMom I should seriously be doing something.
Packing. Cleaning. That's been my agenda for about the past 2 weeks.. This week has been more hardcore though. I'm very excited for our new future! I know in just a very short time our lives will be changed!! I'll be unpacking and attempting to settle into new surroundings. Moving is fun. Adventure time!! Lies be spared though this packing and cleaning thing sucks. I didn't think it would cause as much chaos to my daily routine as it has. Mostly just because I get so busy I forget I still have dishes or laundry to do. BLAH. So I'm very relieved that I'm coming up on the last week of packing.. I hope everyone is enjoying the fall!! I will be happy when I can start posting regularly again. {Before Halloween} Much love all. Be back soon. VintageModMom Life happens. Sometimes you have to hit the pause button on certain things. This is one of those times. But fret not. I shall return before October ends. {Woot Halloween} My most amazing and fantastic husband has recieved a promotion!!! So. We shall be moving 4 hours away to the wonderful Birmingham-ish area! WE can't wait we are so excited!! However, maintaining a blog while attempting to pack our lives up in a very short period of time {gotta love moving for work!} just won't cut it right now, so I'm taking a short break so I can focus on packing our life up!! It's possible I may post here and there with some exciting updates but I will not be posting my regular M,W,F until the move is complete, however it won't be long.. this is all happening VERY VERY quickly!! I can't wait to post updates!!! In the meantime I will still be active on Fb, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram. So for now you can follow me there. Woot!! Life level up!! I will update once I am posting again. Thanks!! Much love. VintageModMom Good Morning all!
Today I'm going to talk about something that has changed everything about the way I organize. Workflowy. I am a productivity/organizational obessesor if ever there was one. I've used just about every to-do, note taking, journaling app/website there is. But Workflowy is the most superior. And it's FREE. It works almost like my brain works.. it's so fantastic. I'm in love with it. It's simple but so functional. It now has a permanent spot in my open tabs =) Also it's an app so I can get to it on my phone, tablet or the website and it syncs flawlessly. I enjoy the simplicity and how easy it is to figure something out if need be. The help page is simple and there is a VIDEO for everything. {Amazing} I've used it twice already.. once to figure out how to bold something.. The second time was because they added a feature which they do often, but for good reasons. They did great naming it Workflowy because it does flow.. you can have as many sections, sub menus and notes as you need.. yeah way too excited about a to-do app but how could I not be? I've been searching for the perfect organizational tool since forever. The only thing even close to working for me is Google Calendar. I do still use that. I tried all of Microsoft's programs.. one note etc. Didn't want to pay extra for Evernote.. nor did I enjoy it all that much.. I did enjoy Astrid but they discontinued that app/service. They just all seemed to be missing something. But I am completely satisfied with Workflowy.. so far I haven't caught myself saying "dang I wish I could [insert missing feature here]" Hasn't happened. Also my productivity is up! And not just productivity but organizing everything I need.. that's really the most frustrating part is that I could never find a system to satisfy, so I'd forget about it or quit using it and things would go undone and be lost in some task black hole.. I guess this works for me because I'm a folder person.. On my computer I have a folder with millions of other folders all labelled and catergorized..with other folders inside those and so on to what seems like infinity.. Workflowy kind of provides that organization {except with a bullet system} so I guess that's why I enjoy it.. but my brother also started using it and he raved to me about it as well, so I think I've finally found a keeper!! The more I use it the more I love it... Try it out it's free.. and it may bring you some much needed organization.. {Get a jump on this and have your whole week organized before Monday! - Totally possible and enjoyable} You can sign up here! And I hope it brings you as much happiness & organization as it brings me! VintageModMom |
