Introduction
Cookie Cutter "Flips"I'm part of a group on Facebook called Cookie Cutter Flips where we post the different ways we create cookie shapes out of multiple cookie cutters or reuse a cookie cutter in an interesting or new way. This is one of those situations. I was not sure what I was going to use to make an apron. I have multiple shirts and gowns but the neckline kind of ruins the whole apron vibe. I happened to see in the group where someone created a hoodie by using a circle... and viola my apron was born! *Side note I created a special recipe for these Father's Day cookies. They are Oreo Cookies and Cream. I will be posting the recipe ASAP. They came out really delicious. Process PhotosI have a Dad and a Bonus Dad in my life so I created each cookie in this set twice. So yes you are seeing double. Neither of my Dad's are big beer drinkers anymore so I decided to make a frosty soda cookie. I wanted the glass to look frosty and cold so I used some luster dust to create a frosty look. This corn on the cob is probably my favorite cookie of the set. About a week before I created this set we actually had some really delicious sweet corn. It may have inspired me to create my own. I used a very thick royal icing to create the kernals and a thick royal icing to kind of mold the butter. I wanted it to look like it was melting. I used sprinkles for the salt and pepper. I actually considered using a tiny bit of salt along with the sprinkles but I don't think my Dad's would have appreciated the sentiment LOL. I have actually created a version of this grill before. I've done a backyard bbq type of set before for a Block Party we had in 2022. I will be posting the side by sides. These cookies were fun. I don't do much wet on wet and these look really cool. I've made a few hot dog cookies so this was just an opportunity to improve and I think I improved on this one the most. I use watercolor for all the shading on my cookies. I'm not an airbrush kind of girl. I didn't like it in art class and I don't plan to ever use it for my cookies either, it's just not my thing. I'm pretty happy with how my burgers turned out too. Again my shading has improved as well as my use of texture. I like how the texture came out on this one. My tomato actually looks shiny and the cheese looks better than the one I did before. I thought the burger technique was new but I did it on the set in 2022 so it wasn't new LOL. But it's classic and it works. Nothing amazing about the ice cream cones but they are cute! I'm proud of my little ketchup and mustard bottles. They are cute and any reason to use my ultra fine pens is always great! Here's some basic process photos. I never really know where to put them but I always take the pictures so I feel like I should post them somewhere. 2022 vs 2024Here's the comparison from 2022 to now. I decided to go with a rectangle this go-round because both my Dad's have bigger rectangle style grills. Honeslty there's not a huge difference here but i did use brighter colors on the new one so you can see the "flames" better and I have thinner markers now so I could add more detail to the burgers. Not a huge difference but a little growth. I actually remember I created this 2022 burger using a circle cutter and I created the hamburger using a bus cutter that I cut the tires off of. (I thought I took pictures of that but I guess I didn't.) I think I might like the shape of the 2022 burger better... Here is another comparison and I feel like there is some growth here. My shading has improved for sure. I actually planned to put ketchup and mustard on my hot dogs BUT my Step Dad does not put Ketchup on his hot dogs and I don't think my Dad likes mustard... but I wasn't sure and it was bothering me so I decided to just leave it off and they could decide for themselves LOL. I'm actually happy I didn't add the condiments. It's not a really a direct comparison but there were a few things to compare and see growth on.
I got my extra thin tipped markers after I did the set from 2022 so I was able to actually write "mustard" and "ketchup" on the new bottles. Everything else I just went through close ups on. It's fun to see the transformations even if they're small. Small improvements over time is a good thing. Photoshoot/Last LookThere are more "photoshoot" type photos posted in the Gallery if you want to see each one in all it's close-up glory!
If you made it all the way to the end you are awesome and I greatly appreciate you! HAPPY FATHER'S DAY! I hope you enjoyed this set as much as I did! Thank you so much and I hope to see you at the next one! Much Love Amanda
