Welcome to the Ice Cream Party Breakdown! This is where I share all the details of how I created this adorable set of cookies!! If you aren't into reading and just want to see pretty pictures then you want to go to the Gallery Post Here. But if you want to see all the details and behind the scenes fun you're in the right place! Either way I hope you enjoy your visit and thank you for being here! The SketchCookie Cutter "Flips"I posted about Cookie Cutter "Flips" in my previous post. It's basically just creating a new shape from a cookie cutter. There are 2 in this set! Before we go forward, which 2 do you think they are? Based on the sketch, one is kind of a dead giveaway as you can see the cutter under the sketch LOL but what about the other one?... Yeah they're both kind of easy to figure out. So let me show you how I made them! Textured CookiesSo first of all--- I can not take credit for the Ice Cream Scoop cookies. I came across this on Instagram at exactly the right time. You might notice these weren't included on the sketch. That's because I didn't see these until I had already started this set but once I saw them I had to try it out! This specific idea came from this video by Painted Ladies Pastry. So here's my experience in creating these. I used my mini cookie scoop to make a cute little scoop of cookie dough and I baked them at 325 for about 9 minutes. They were cooked all the way through and delicious!!! The only thing I would add is that the strawberry by itself looked weird.... I added the chocolate and vanilla and it looked better as a set, you could tell what they were. I think if I were to do these again I would color the dough to correspond with the icing color. But besides that these are brilliant!! Ice Cream cookies are so fun to make because there are SO many ways to make "ice cream" on a cookie. I opted for more texture on these. Waited for the icing to "crust over" and then went over it with a rounded fondant tool. Since these are Strawberry Cookies (through and through, the dough is also Strawberry. Recipe coming soon.) I decided to use Strawberries as the garnish as well. They are Royal Icing transfers. I can't seem to find the exact ones I used because I used the "Chocolate Covered Strawberries Transfer Sheet" but she now has just a Strawberry Royal Icing Transfer sheet so I'm sure that would work too. You can find that here it's from Your Baking Bestie. She is really amazing and offers lots of great advice and free resources. Her website is worth poking around on if you're into cookies and baking! I did the same with the Mini Hot Fudge Cones I caught a lot of flack in a Cookie FB group for this but any brown icing you see in this set (even the cones) are made by adding cocoa to my icing. It also turns the icing into Chocolate Flavored Royal Icing and it is delicious! My family loves when I do that and I've never ever had a complaint but apparently there is a large group of people that are allergic to cocoa. I had no idea. Never heard of such a thing. This is also how I get such a rich black when I need it.Adding the cocoa really makes things a lot easier and I can avoid food coloring. If someone I knew did have a cocoa allergy then I would actually make brown royal icing and if I needed black I would continue on from there. Going from white straight to black is a horribly difficult and almost impossible task. Anyway. Just wanted to address that. The cones actually have "chocolate syrup" on them... And I used the same Strawberry transfers again. I used the same ones for the entire set. I think they came out really cute. These also go under the textured section! More textured ice cream and more of that yummy fudge topping! Topped off with the strawberry garnish! This was also the cookie I did the flip on. I used a Margarita glass and a plaque cookie. (There is a wavy square shown but disregard that you don't need it) Simple but ClassicThis is the Strawberry Cone I created from the Mug Cookie Cutter. Nothing fancy. The MinisJust some simple cute minis. The FavoritesThis set in general is one of my favorite sets so far (I know I say that a lot but I really LOVE this set) The Ice Cream Truck is my favorite cookie of this set. It came out absolutely adorable. I was asked if the cones were transfers and no they were not I piped them directly on the truck. I know a lot of cookiers really love using transfers but I honestly don't prefer them. I did use them for the strawberries because I wanted a certain effect but I don't use transfers often. I live in a generally humid area and I find they take forever to dry and then attaching them to the cookie makes me nervous---I just don't prefer it. I used my white edible marker for the writing on the side of the Ice Cream Truck. I LOVE those edible markers. They are SO useful. You can find them on Amazon if you're interested. This was also one of the favorites of the set. It's pretty cute. Ya'll have seen those cute, melty, drippy ice cream cakes... This is just that in cookie form. I decided to use a plaque instead of a cake cutter because I wanted to add the cute sprinkle background. I used a white edible marker to make the details on the table. I do think this would have been cute just as a cookie itself without the sprinkles. It just fit my theme better that way. Wrap UpBonus: |
